Newark, DE - "Spotlight on: Metalcasting" - a recent documentary on the metalcasting industry and the critical role it plays in both the economy and society -showcases Signicast Corporation as the leading investment casting producer in the United States. A long-time customer of AMETEK Foundry Products, Signicast has achieved this "second-to-none" reputation largely through its unique culture of engineering process excellence.

Video footage shot on-site at the Signicast plant in Hartford, Wisconsin, shows AMETEK's Flexsil investment casting filter cups being used to filter molten metal as it is poured directly into a mold. This filtering process removes impurities such as slag and dross from the molten metal before it enters the casting mold.

The documentary was sponsored by the American Foundry Society (AFS) and is being run on National Public Television stations nationwide. The video also can be viewed in streaming format on the internet through multiple websites such as the AFS homepage, YouTube or Google video.

"At a time when the majority of media coverage on the US manufacturing sector focuses primarily on plant closings and unemployment as unavoidable consequences of globalization, I believe it's critical to occasionally balance that message with the hard-fought success stories that many US companies like Signicast epitomize," said Jason Hitchings, general manager of Comanche Technologies, a strategic partner of AMETEK Foundry Products.

Comanche Technologies is a leader in molten metal filtration applications in both the foundry and investment casting industries. It has partnered with AMETEK Foundry Products in developing Cerra-Flex, an innovative line of refractory cloth filters. Flexsil and Cerra-Flex refractory cloth filters serve dual roles by filtering impurities from molten metal, while providing a cost-effective method for both de-risering and runner segmentation.

AMETEK Foundry Products is a unit of AMETEK, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices with annual sales of more than $2.5 billion.
